Compete in the European EMS Championship 2027
Are you ready to challenge yourself and your team of EMS colleagues on the international stage? Now is your chance to put your skills, teamwork, and experience to the test in one of the most prestigious EMS competitions in the world.
The competition is all about teamwork, expertise, and finding fast, innovative solutions in high-pressure situations. Teams from around the globe will compete in scenario-based events, facing real-world challenges that EMS professionals encounter daily. Scenarios will range from critical medical conditions to complex trauma situations, requiring quick thinking, decision making, collaboration, and top-notch care.
All teams will compete in two preliminary rounds. For the first time, EMS2027 will include an outdoor, all-weather, preliminary scenario as well as an indoor scenario. The three teams with the highest scores from the preliminary rounds will compete in the final in a complex and spectacular full-scale scenario in the plenary hall. Let the games begin!
Application and information about the championship
Application Guidelines
Applications must be submitted in English.
The motivation must not exceed 250 words. The application
must be accompanied by an official letter of support from the organization e.g. the medical director, attached in the registration form. Please attach a video introduction to your team. The video must be a minimum of 30 seconds in length and must not exceed 3 minutes. All team members should speak. The video should be recorded in English. Please attach a team photo. Please ensure it is portrait (vertical) orientation and that it shows the full team. Please note that if your team is selected to compete in the championship, the video will be used to introduce your team, in the lead up to EMS2027, on EMS Europe's social media. By submitting video/images, you agree to the use of the video and any images received on EMS Europe's website and social media. Application deadline: 13 November, 2026.
The application will be reviewed by the Championship Committee. Sponsors will not participate in the selection.
All teams will receive an answer before 11 December, 2026 and can then register at the Early Bird registration fee. Teams that have not registered all of their participants for the congress by the specified deadline of 18 December, 2027 will be excluded from the competition. Instead, the first team on a prioritized waiting list will be offered the possibility of competing.
Who can participate?
Prehospital healthcare professionals from around the world can sign up for the European EMS Championship.
The EMS championship will include two initial scenarios followed by a final round for the three best-performing teams. Each team can consist of up to four members. However only three team members (one team-leader and two team members) will be allowed to perform at a time during each scenario and in the finals. Teams will be allowed to rotate their members between scenarios. It will not be allowed to rotate team members during an ongoing scenario.
The championship language is English, meaning all communication must be done in English – both when it comes to communication between team leader and instructor as well as internal communication between team members. This enables the judges to complete a fair assessment and make the competition more relevant for spectators.
Registration for EMS2027 in Killarney and participation in the EMS2027 Gala Dinner is mandatory for participating teams. There are no additional costs for entry into the championships.
What should you bring?
All team members are required to wear uniforms during the competition and at the award ceremony. The award ceremony will be held during the EMS2027 Gala Dinner on 14 April, 2027. Please be aware that the second preliminary scenario will take place outdoors, no matter the weather conditions, and prepare accordingly. It is preferrable for the teams to bring their own prehospital kits/bags. Medications (real drugs or placebos) must be labeled with the correct medication name and dosage. Please remember to bring extra medications and supplies to replenish kits/bags after the preliminary competition.
EMS2027 will provide additional equipment including monitor/defibrillator for all teams to use throughout the competition. A list with the exact equipment will be provided for all teams. All teams will be given the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the manikins and equipment available at a session prior to the competition.
What will the scenarios be like?
During the preliminary round the teams will compete in two simulated scenarios - one indoors and one outdoors. Both of these scenarios will be representative of scenarios prehospital healthcare professionals may encounter in real life . An experienced simulation instructor will present the clinical setting and conduct the scenario. All communication will be in English. Each scenario will be assessed by judges who will assess the medical treatment as well as the teamwork performance based on standardized assessment forms. The final round will be a full-scale simulated scenario with more complex challenges in the Gleneagle Arena.
What are the rules for the competition?

When will our team be scheduled to compete?
The preliminary competition is scheduled to take place at 07:30 - 16:30 on Tuesday 13th April 2027. All competitors will be required in the main arena at 17:00 for the announcement of
the 3 finalists. The final will take place live in the main arena on Wednesday 14th April 2027. Please note that your team must be complete and ready on site at 07:30 on Tuesday morning, otherwise the team will have to be disqualified. All competitors will receive a participation certificate during the closing ceremony on Thursday 15th April 2027. Please make your travel plans accordingly. Who will the judges be?
The judges will be experienced healthcare professionals who either work in pre-hospital care or in advanced medical education. The judges will be selected to avoid a conflict of interest with the participating teams. An electronic scoring system is developed to ensure a fair and non-biased assessment. For each scenario in the initial round, an instructor will inform the teams about the scenario. Two judges with no affiliation to the teams will judge using the scoring system.
In the final there will be two instructors and a panel of international judges. The winning team will be chosen on assessment of the best performance in medical knowledge, technical and non-technical skills, such as leadership, situational awareness, communication, and decision making.

Additionally the Audience will choose their winning team – voting is administered via the conference app and will reveal the audience’s favourite team.
Winners of the EMS2027 Championship will receive free passes to the next EMS congress.
